Margalla Trail Runners is presenting for the first time in the history of Pakistan a 100k trail race in the 5th edition of the Galiyat Mountain Trail Race. The race is exciting, thrilling, and challenging, a 100km distance, in the mountains of Galiyat.

Galiyat Mountain Trail, under the banner of Margalla Trail Runners, has become a member of ITRA-International Trail Running Association and UTMB® (Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc) Index Races. GMT is an annual event of ITRA and UTMB® Index Races. (Search Pakistan)

Galiyat Mountains are part of the Himalayan foothills located in Abbottabad District of KPK, Pakistan. The trail starts from Lalazar Park, Nathia Gali, and finishes at Jandala, Khaira Gali. The interconnected trails are the most beautiful and scenic, and one of the best routes for trail running.

Galiyat Mountain Trail 100K Race Eligibility Criteria

🚨 GALIYAT 100K (4000m+) – STRICT ENTRY & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

This is NOT a beginner race. This is a high-risk mountain ultra in dense forest, night conditions, and remote terrain.

Registration will be STRICTLY CONTROLLED.

✅ WHO CAN APPLY

Only runners with:
* At least 1 × 50K trail race in past 2 years
* Preferably 2000m+ elevation experience
* Must have completed races (no DNF in qualifying races)

👉 Road runners with no trail experience will NOT be accepted

🎒 MANDATORY GEAR (NO EXCEPTIONS)

* 2 × Headlamps (200+ lumens each)
* Survival blanket
* Waterproof jacket
* Thermal layer (long sleeve)
* Gloves + buff
* Whistle
* 1.5–2L hydration capacity
* 10L trail vest (minimum)
* Minimum 500–800 kcal food
* Fully charged mobile phone
* GPX navigation (watch or phone)
* Trekking poles (strongly recommended for safety)

* ⁠Emergency First Aid Kit

❌ No gear = Immediate disqualification (even mid-race)

⚠️ RACE CONDITIONS (READ CAREFULLY)

* 100KM distance
* 4000m+ elevation gain
* Dense forest sections
* Active wildlife region
* Extended night running
* Remote wilderness (limited or no network)

👉 You must be prepared for:
* Getting lost
* Extreme fatigue
* Cold exposure
* Long rescue response times

* Cut-off times will be STRICT
* Mandatory gear checks at start & checkpoints
* Runners must follow marked course only
* GPX track must be carried and understood
* No littering, no shortcuts

📄 MEDICAL WAIVER (MANDATORY)

All participants must sign a medical and liability waiver before race start confirming:

* You are medically fit to participate in a 100K mountain ultra
* You understand the risks of injury, illness, wildlife encounters, and death
* You accept full personal responsibility during the race
* You agree to follow all race rules and safety protocols
* You consent to emergency evacuation if required (at your own risk/cost where applicable)

👉 No signed waiver = No race bib

🧠 IMPORTANT

This race requires complete self-sufficiency.
You are responsible for your safety between checkpoints.

Nathia Gali is a picturesque hill station and mountain resort town located in the Abbottabad District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,410 metres (7,910 feet), it is renowned for its crisp mountain air, lush pine forests, and world-class hiking trails.

As a premier tourist hub, the town is especially vibrant during the peak summer months of June, July, and August.


Accommodation & Acclimatization

While Nathia Gali offers a diverse range of hotel options, the peak season brings high demand. To ensure a seamless experience for the Galiyat Mountain 100k, we strongly recommend the following:

  • Book Early: Secure your lodging well in advance to avoid limited availability.

  • Acclimatize: If possible, plan to arrive one or two days before the race. Spending time at this altitude prior to the start is crucial for physical adjustment and peak performance.

  • Self-Arrangement: Please note that participants are responsible for booking their own accommodations.

Pro Tip: Staying centrally near the Nathia Gali Club will give you the easiest access to the starting line on race day.

For those traveling on race day, please allow ample time. Nathia Gali Club is approximately a 3-hour drive from Islamabad.

Official Transport Service (Optional Add-on)

We offer a dedicated shuttle service for participants which can be booked as an add-on via our website.

  • Departure: Saturday, July 18 | 8:00 AM from Islamabad

  • Destination: Nathia Gali Club

  • Return: Sunday, July 19 | From Khaira Gali back to Islamabad
